How to use App Store Save Rate Conversion in your business

Use this chart to measure the overall performance of your App Store retention messages.

  • The bar series shows the count of unique retention messages sent by the Retention Messaging API.
  • The line series shows save rate: the percentage of those messages that did not end in a cancellation.
  • Use this chart to compare volume and effectiveness over time, and to spot sudden drops in message activity or save performance.

    • Promotional offer
  • Product ID (the active product ID at the time the retention message was shown)

Why this chart matters

Save rate is a key retention messaging metric because it tells you whether your messages are preventing cancellations.

  • It helps you compare the effectiveness of different message types.
  • It shows whether higher message volume is translating into retention.

Calculation

  • Retention Messages Sent (bars): The count of unique retention messages delivered to customers. Messages are counted per subscription per calendar day, so if the same retention message is shown multiple times on the same day only the last exposure is used, unless an earlier message resulted in a successful plan switch / accepted offer, in which case the earlier message is counted.
  • Save Rate (line): The percentage of sent messages currently classified as saved based on cancellations, accepted promotional offers, and plan switches observed within 24 hours of the message.
  • Save Rate formula: (Messages currently classified as saved / Retention Messages Sent) × 100 = Save Rate

For example, if you sent 1,000 unique retention messages and 510 are currently classified as saved, your save rate would be 51%.

Messages shown less than 24 hours ago are included based on the outcomes observed so far. For example, a recent message is initially counted as saved if no cancellation has been observed, but it may move to not saved if the customer cancels before the 24-hour window ends.

📘Dive deeper into saves
