Refund Requests Outcomes Chart
This chart is available in Charts v2 and Charts v3.
When customers request a refund for their App Store or Google Play purchases, they must do so directly through the stores. The Refund Requests Outcomes chart visualizes those requests, breaking them down by resolution status: Refund Granted, Refund Declined, Refund Reversed, No Resolution, and Total Requests.
To ensure RevenueCat receives notifications about these requests, configure Apple App Store Server Notifications for each Apple app and Google Real-Time Developer Notifications for each Google Play app in your project. For the most accurate and timely App Store data, we recommend using Apple's V2 notifications.
Measures
The Refund Requests Outcomes chart includes two measures:
- Refund Requests: The number of refund review requests RevenueCat received.
- Refund Request Amount: The amount associated with those refund review requests. What this amount represents depends on the request outcome.

How to use Refund Requests Outcomes in your business
This chart provides insight into the outcomes of refund requests for your App Store or Google Play purchases, showing the volume of granted, declined, reversed, and unresolved requests. By analyzing these trends, you can identify shifts in approval patterns and understand how frequently your customers are requesting refunds.
It may be especially useful to analyze your refund requests by the refund reasons that your customers are giving. Segmenting the chart by "Refund request reason" and using the 100% stacked column chart type lets you see how often customers cite reasons like "Unintended Purchase" or "Unsatisfied with Purchase", helping you pinpoint specific areas for improvement. For example, a high volume of refund requests under "Unsatisfied with Purchase" might suggest a need to refine descriptions or messaging.
Google Play currently only supports chargebacks for refund review, so that is the only refund request reason available for Google Play rows.
Apple provides refund request reasons through V2 notifications. If App Store rows show only "Unknown" when segmenting by "Refund request reason", your app is most likely using Apple's V1 notifications.
Use Refund Control to configure how RevenueCat responds to Apple and Google refund review requests. A good Refund Control setup should show a balance between Refund Declined and Refund Granted requests. That balance should also be reflected in Refund Request Amount. The Refund Declined amount represents revenue retained by declining refund requests that otherwise would have been granted.
Calculation
Each period counts refund review requests that match a tracked RevenueCat transaction, broken down by outcome. Sandbox requests are excluded.
Requests are counted in the period when RevenueCat received the refund request, not when the purchase happened and not necessarily when the refund was finalized.
Google Play data is available starting August 21, 2026.
Outcome breakdown
| Outcome | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Refund Granted | The store approved the refund. |
| Refund Declined | The store declined the refund. |
| Refund Reversed | Apple reversed a previously granted refund. Not available for Google Play. |
| No Resolution | The request is recent and no final outcome has been observed yet. |
| Total Requests | The total number of matched refund review requests received. |
RevenueCat counts unresolved requests for either store as "Refund Declined" when no refund grant is received within the 2-day window. Google Play doesn't send refund declined events, so this fallback is the only way Google Play requests are counted as declined.
With V1 notifications, Apple only sends events for granted refunds. As a result, RevenueCat will default any unresolved requests to "Refund Declined" after 48 hours if no update is received from Apple. V2 notifications, however, include both granted and declined updates directly from Apple, allowing the "No Resolution" status to be updated more promptly.
Refund Request Amount
Refund Request Amount is the amount tied to the refund review request. Its meaning depends on the outcome:
| Outcome | What Refund Request Amount represents |
|---|---|
| Refund Granted | The refunded amount |
| Refund Declined | The purchase amount that was at risk and was not refunded |
| Refund Reversed | The original granted refund amount that was reversed |
| No Resolution | The purchase amount still pending an outcome |
This chart only includes refunds where RevenueCat received a refund review request. The Refunds Chart includes all refunds, including refunds that did not go through the refund request or review flow.
